Summary
A lympho-reticulocytic sarcoma appeared spontaneously in 4 untreated golden hamsters of both sexes within a few weeks of each other and at the age of 4 to 5 months. The origin of the tumor could not be ascertained with assurance. One of the tumors proved to be transplantable and today is in its 10th homologous generation. Like the original tumors the transplants exhibit invasive growth in the cheek pouches and in the peritoneum and thus cause the death of the host animal within 3 to 4 weeks. Metastases have not been observed to date. Of the known lymphoreticulocytic neoplasms of laboratory rodents this tumor morphologically resembles most closely the “reticulum-cell sarcoma, type B (Hodgkin's-like lesion)” of the mouse described by Thelma B. Dunn.
