Einschlüsse von Granulocyten in Krebszellen

Penetration of cancer cells by granulocytes

Summary

Excessive intracytoplasmic inclusions of neutrophilic polymorphonuclear leukocytes were found in metastatic cancer cells of a hypernephroid renal carcinoma. The reaction for the ASD-chloro-acetate-Esterase is very helpful in identifying the incorporated leukocytes even after disintegration. — The phenomenon observed is due most probably to combined processus of active penetration of cancer cells by granulocytes (emperipolesis) on the one hand and cancer cell phagocytosis of granulocytes on the other. It seems to reflect the interaction of agression and defense mechanisms of blood and cancer cells.
