Summary
The in vitro degradation of alkylating agents was studied with the O. Klatt modification of the Epstein method, and compared with the degradation of degranol. Three types of nitrogen mustard derivatives could be differentiated according to the speed of breakdown. The blood of cancerous patients reacted like that of healthy persons. A difference between the degradation in vivo and that in vitro was not detectable. The enzyme system of the blood may well exert its effect with erythrocytes present and with the aid of proteins.
