Role of surface-barrier resistance during adsorption of gases by laminated silicates

  • Published:
Theoretical and Experimental Chemistry Aims and scope

Abstract

Laminated silicates with swollen structural cell of the montmorillonite type are convenient models for studying the role of surface-barrier resistance during the sorption of different substances on microporous adsorbents. The reasons for the occurrence of this type of resistance during sorption of polar molecules in interlayer spaces of laminated silicates are discussed. Based on the calculations it was shown that during the sorption of dioxane and acetone on montmorillonite, the contributions of the surface-barrier and intracrystalline resistance are commensurable.
