Summary
Hematoxylin staining bodies very similar, probably identical those originally described by Gross in systemic lupus erythematosus were found in a case of pigmented nevus (compound type) and of melanosis Dubreuilh. Though the pathognomonic specifity of these “Karyolytes” especially as an diagnostic acid in necropsy cases of lupus erythematosus appears to be of high degree, attention is called to their rare presence even in other diseases. The question remains open if the presence of hematoxylin bodies in diseases other than acute systemic lupus erythematosus also indicates a hint to (antinuclear) immunological influences.
