Abstract

It was determined volumetrically that at temperature of gas-phase oxidative catalysis (473–573 K) o-xylene is chemisorbed on SKN and oxidized AG-3 carbons. The chemisorption is weak and reversible and is not accompanied by dissociation of o-xylene molecules, The active chemisorption centers are surface heteroatoms of nitrogen (in SKN carbon) or oxygen (in oxidized AG-3 carbon), promoting polarization of the C-H bond of the methyl group of o-xylene.
