Summary
The excretion of fluorine ions in urine and faeces of adults and children has been examined by micro-analytical methods. Sodium fluoride, fluorine salts and fluorine containing tablets, either commercially available or self-made, have been applied for that purpose. The fluorine was bound to hydroxyl apatite, distilled off as H2F2 or H2SiF6 and determined colorimetrically by means of peroxotitanium(IV) sulphate solution. Certain concentrations of TiO2SO4 and H2SO4 yielded a maximum of sensitivity of the method. The excretion in the urine of 24 hrs. proved to be strictly proportional to the amount applied. After some days of continuous application a saturation ocurred, practically the whole quantity of fluorine applied being excreted in the urine. Furthermore, detailed studies have been carried out on the resorption and retention of fluorine in the body.
