Diastereoselective methylation of ls-α-phenylethyl-Δ9,10-octahydroquinol-4-one

Abstract

The methylation of the lithium derivative of ls-α-phenylethyl-Δ9,10-octahydroquinol-4-one under kinetic-control conditions at −70 °C in hexane is highly diastereoselective and leads to (+)-ls-α-phenylethyl-3-methyl-Δ9,10-octahydroquinol-4-one in 90% optical yield.
