Summary
Lanthanum-staining substance, which has been recently reported by Wolff and Schreiner in the epidermal intercellular spaces, can also be demonstrated in lanthanum-glutaraldehyde fixed sections. With fixation in glutaraldehyde alone, the lanthanum-staining substance in the intercellular spaces is not fully continuous with the desmosome structure. The possible chemical difference between the substance in the intercellular space and that in the desmosome is discussed in this paper.
