Die Bedeutung der Enzymhistochemie in der Diagnostik sekundärer Hautcarcinome

The significance of enzyme histochemistry in the diagnosis of secondary carcinomas of the skin

Summary

36 malignancies of different organs and 22 metastases were investigated enzyme-histochemically (12 enzymes) and the enzymatic reaction patterns were compared. The following observations were made:

  1. 1.

Carcinomas of the same organ and the same histologic type generally exhibit the same enzymatic reaction pattern. The enzyme patterns of the corresponding primary and secondary (metastatic) tumors are identical.

  2. 2.

Carcinomas of different organs show different enzymatic reaction patterns and so do their respective metastases.

Thus, it was possible to distinguish, histochemically, between skin metastases of various internal neoplasms. In some instances the enzyme-histochemical behaviour of a secondary malignancy of the skin is so characteristic as to give important diagnostic clues regarding the nature and site of the primary neoplasm.
