Summary
Ten species of the genus Microsporum, Epidermophyton floccosum and Keratinomyces Ajelloi were investigated enzymhistochemically for dehydrogenases of the energy producing metabolism and for ubichinon. In these fungi as well as in dermatophytes of the genus Trichophyton (v. preceding communication) enzymes of the Embden-Meyerhof pathway, of the hexose monophosphate shunt, of the citric acid cycle and the respiratory chain could be demonstrated.
Ubichinon activity was evident in all investigated fungi. Inhomogenous distribution of certain enzymes in different hyphal segments is discussed in connection with the possibility of differentiated functional properties of single mycelial zones.
