Summary
The effect of cerbral ischemia in the cat and of the treatment with nicergoline on the cerebral electrical activity has been described.
Total cerebral ischemia for 3 min induces almost immediately an isoelectric EEG pattern; the end of ischemia is followed at 84 sec by the reappearance of the first electrical activity and at 16 min by its complete normalization pretreatment with nicergoline by the intravenous route (150 μg/kg) results in a significant shortening of the normalization times. Such effect is even more evident after the intracarotid administration of as little nicergoline as 15 μg/kg when both the reappearance and the normalization times are significantly reduced.
