The effect of phloxin on bethanechol and histamine stimulated gastric acid secretion in rats

Summary

The effect of phloxin (Na salt of tetrabromo-tetrachlorofluorescein) on histamine- and bethanechol-stimulated gastric acid secretion was studied in anaesthetized rats. Concentrations of phloxin, equimolar with those of the stimulants, depressed the secretory response to histamine and had no influence on the bethanechol effect. The results suggest that histamine is not involved in the events triggered by bethanechol which stimulate gastric acid secretion in rats.
