Summary
The endpoint of the reaction of H2O (in organic solvents) with acetyl chloride can very precisely be determined by dilatometry. By means of statistical methods it is shown, that because of accuracy, precision, proportionality and sensitivity as well as because of stable titre of the reagent and the simple handling this procedure is useful for water determination in organic solvents for research and routine analysis. The minimum content to be determined is about 10 mg of H2O, the maximum is 1300 mg of H2O. A determination can be carried out within 10–15 min. Low alcohols can also be determined by this procedure.
