Summary
A new method is described for the quantitative separation and determination of polyethylene oxide condensates and free polyethylene glycols by help of ethylmethyl ketone and water. Ethylmethyl ketone (butanone-2) with 11.4% of water (a binary azetrope in the boiling range) selectively dissolves surface-active condensates of that kind in contrast to non-surface-active polyethylene glycols.
