Summary
The suitability of dithizone, diethyldithiocarbamate and tetramethylendithiocarbamate as chelating agents for the extraction-photometric cadmium determination by flameless atomic absorption spectrophotometry in the presence of zinc was investigated. It has been found that the extraction of the dithizone chelate by carbon tetrachloride permits an uninfluenced determination of cadmium in the presence of a zinc excess up to 105. Therefore the use of flameless atomic absorption spectrophotometry raises the selectivity as compared to photometry, because photometry only permits a 1000-fold excess of zinc. With this method 2×10−4% of cadmium in zinc can be determined without further corrections of matrix effects.
