Summary
On the strongly acid cation-exchanger Nucleosil SA-10 13 metal ions are separable within 34 min using a tartrate solution pH 2.75 as mobile phase. Selective separations are possible by means of complexing mixtures of ethylenediamine and tartaric, oxalic and citric acid. By a proper selection of the eluents for the determination of elements in foods, e. g., the sequence of elution is variable so that the elution of the alkaline earth ions follows that of the trace element ions. The detection of the cations is carried out photometrically by post-chromatographic derivatisation with the reagent mixture PAR-ZnEDTA with high sensitivity. The detection limits are below 0.1 ppm; in the ppm-range the relative standard deviations amount to 1% and less.
