Conclusion

We propose this method as a simple, quick and precise procedure for MAO catalytic activity assay in tissues. By optimization of the reaction, the zero-order kinetics were obtained enabling the initial measurement at 410 nm. We employed ABTS as chromogen; it is not carcinogenic, has good solubility and the oxidation product has an acceptable molar absorption coefficient.
