Summary
Ion-chromatography was used for the determination of trace amounts of Se, As, Mo, W and Cr after the transformation into their oxoanions SeO 2−4 , AsO 3−4 , MoO 2−4 , WO 2−4 and CrO 2−4 in alkaline medium by treatment with hydrogen peroxide. For the separation and determination of As, Mo, W and Cr 0.005 and 0.01 M Na2CO3 were suggested as eluents; employing 0.003 M Na2CO3 makes it possible to determine also selenium simultaneously. The influence of different factors, such as the composition, concentration and flow-rate of the eluent, its pH value, concentration, volume and pH of the injected sample, on the efficiency of separation and duration of analysis was studied. The range of the concentration of the oxoanions, where the isotherm is linear, was investigated.
The obtained detection limits of the elements are 1–50 ppb and with concentrating column 0.01–0.50 ppb. The method was employed for the determination of tested elements in natural and waste waters. The relative standard deviation of the results was 0.02–0.05. The results of the ion-chromatographic determinations agree well with those obtained by other methods.
