Abstract
The quinuclidine ring in the reaction of 2-ethoxycarbonyl-3-oxoquinuclidine with nucleophilic reagents under mild conditions is cleaved at the C2-C3 bond to give 1-carboxymethylisonipecotic acid and its derivatives.
