Abstract

An alternative route to organosilsesquioxanes by hydrolytic condensation of the Si-H bonds of trihydrosilanes is described. This method avoids the formation of alcohols or acids since the leaving group is removed as hydrogen gas. The influence of the catalyst, ClRh(PPh3)3 or fluoride anion, on the properties of the resulting materials is discussed.
