Abstract
Benzene and its homologs undergo the Friedel-Crafts reaction with 3-sulfolanyl sulfonates in the presence of aluminum chloride. The chief reaction product of the reaction of 3-tosyloxysulfolane with phenol is 3-chlorosulfolane.
