Abstract
It is shown that the frequencies of the long-wave band in the electronic spectra of tetrazolium salts correlate with Brown's electrophilic σ+ constants. The color of the tetrazolium salts is due to a polar transition associated with transfer of charge from the phenyl ring attached to the N3 atom to the central tetrazole ring.
