Summary
The increase in rotation of optically active hydroxy-acids, due to the presence of sodium tungstate, was used for the construction of a calibration curve (optical activity against tungsten concentration) which is of analytical interest for the determination of the metal and of the hydroxy-acid. In other curves the dependence is demonstrated of the specific rotation on the molar ratio tungsten/l-malate and tungsten/d-tartrate at different pH values. The latter curve was found to be useful both for the determination of tartaric acid and the study of the structure of the complex formed.
