Scission of oxiranes by acid anhydrides to unsaturated alcohol esters

Abstract

The reactions of some 1-R-3-methyl-2,3-epoxybutanes with acetic and propionic anhydrides takes place at 140–160‡C, regioselectively, with the formation of β-metallyl alcohol esters.
