Amphimetry with electrochemical indication

Part IV. Titration of potassium and lead after complexation with a cyclic polyether


The electrochemically indicated amphimetry (distribution titration of ion pairs in emulsions) enables the determination of bulky ions [1–3] as well as the titration of smaller cations like K+ and Pb2+. For that purpose the latter must be complexed with a cyclic polyether. The determination of lead is carried out after complexation with [18]-crown-6; potassium must be complexed with [2.2.2]-cryptand in order to give an adduct which is stable enough and well transferable. The theoretical titration curves are calculated. From these curves prediction of the analytical conditions (concentration and extraction constant of the ion pair) is derived under which a titration leads to an indication signal with a significant potential jump.
