Abstract
A number of benzazolylhydrazones and benzazolylformazans containing an o-hydroxy or o-methoxy group in the phenyl ring attached to the meso-carbon atom were synthesized. The structure of the compounds in various solvents was studied by means of IR and UV spectroscopy and by determination of the ionization constants. The participation of the o-hydroxy group in the formation of an intramolecular hydrogen bond was demonstrated. The interrelationship between the structure and color of the formazans was investigated.
