Analysis of alloys by fluorescent X-ray spectroscopy

Summary

In order to determine metal samples rapidly and with a few standard samples, a new method, non-destructive-addition method was proposed. As theoretical equations for this method, the following equations were introduced:
$$x = \frac{{a\left( {\frac{{I_M }}{{I_a }} - 1} \right)}}{{\frac{{I_M }}{{I_x }} \cdot \left( {1 - a} \right) + \frac{{I_M }}{{I_a }}a - 1}}$$
and
$$\frac{{\frac{{I_M }}{{I_M '}} \cdot \frac{{W_m '}}{{W_m '}} - 1}}{{W_m ' - W_m }} = \frac{{\frac{{I_M }}{{I_M ''}} \cdot \frac{{W_m ''}}{{W_m }} - 1}}{{W_m '' - W_m }}$$

After preliminary experiments on some powdered samples, these equations were applied to the determination of some metals, for example nickel, chromium, or manganese in steels. Satisfactory results were obtained.

Zusammenfassung

Zur schnellen Untersuchung von Metallen mit nur wenigen Eichproben wird ein neues zerstörungsfreies Zugabeverfahren vorgeschlagen. Als Grundlage für das Verfahren sind folgende Gleichungen abgeleitet worden:
$$x = \frac{{a\left( {\frac{{I_M }}{{I_a }} - 1} \right)}}{{\frac{{I_M }}{{I_x }} \cdot \left( {1 - a} \right) + \frac{{I_M }}{{I_a }}a - 1}}$$
und
$$\frac{{\frac{{I_M }}{{I_M '}} \cdot \frac{{W_m '}}{{W_m '}} - 1}}{{W_m ' - W_m }} = \frac{{\frac{{I_M }}{{I_M ''}} \cdot \frac{{W_m ''}}{{W_m }} - 1}}{{W_m '' - W_m }}$$

Nach einleitenden Versuchen mit pulverförmigen Proben wurde die Methode unter anderem zur Bestimmung von Nickel, Chrom und Mangan im Stahl benutzt. Die Ergebnisse sind zufriedenstellend.
