Summary

Fourty-five patients with the tentative diagnosis of Otosclerosis have been examined by use of our high resolving scintigraphic system. In all cases (n=31), where otosclerotic foci had been proven scintigraphically, the diagnosis was confirmed surgically.

In patients with missing pathologic accumulation of the boneaffine radiopharmakon (n=14) intraoperatively malformations or fixation of ossicules by scar tissue were found. Four patients suffering from a combined hearing impairment exhibited an additional radioactivity in projection on the round window. Surgically in these patients otosclerotic foci at both windows and the bony wall were seen.

This method enables the detection of otosclerotic changes of the labyrinthic capsule. Thus, it is a suitable and non invasive examination technique for the differentiation between hearing defects of the middle or inner ear.
