Summary

The dimension of the apertura piriformis, and the configuration and position of the middle and inferior concha determine the visibility of the inferior and middle meatus and anterior ethmoidal cells as well as the access to maxillary sinus for punction.

The position, dimension and length of processus uncinatus and bulla ethmoidea are responsible for the shape of hiatus semilunaris, the configuration of the orbital wall of the maxillaris sinus and the number of fontanellae. The dimensions of the maxillary sinus vary in all directions in case of a simple sinus as well as in cases of total division of the sinus by a septum. These variations can be demonstrated on corresponding X-ray pictures and tomogranimes.
