Summary
The aerobic and anaerobic cultivation of Bacterium bifidum-Tissier in Tomarelli-solution produces L-lactic acid in different sugars. No lactic acid production was observed in sugar alcohols. The maximum lactic acid concentration was more than 20 mMol per liter after 14 days incubation at 37°C. The highest lactic acid production was observed with 2% maltose in aerobic condition, whereas 2% lactose gave us the highest concentration in the anaerobic state.
Quantitative lactic acid determinations are recommended in stead of acid titrations for classification of mikroorganisms.
