Zusammenfassung
Der Knochen ist ein komplexes, aus Knochenzellen, organischer Grundsubstanz und mineralischen Einlagerungen bestehendes System. Dieses System muß als biologische Einheit betrachtet werden. Es ist seinerseits wieder den Regulationen des Gesamtorganismus unterworfen. Störungen ziehen immer das gesamte System in Mitleidenschaft. Eine normale Verknöcherung ist an die Unversehrtheit des gesamten Systems gebunden. Als Beweis hierfür kann die Rachitis gelten, die außer den augenfällig magelhaften Kalksalzablagerungen Störungen in der Grundsubstanzbildung und im Zellstoffwechsel erkennen läßt. Die Zellstoffwechselstörung dürfte die wesentlichste Ursache der rachitischen Veränderungen am Skeletsystem sein. Die Produktionsstätte der Grundsubstanz ist die Zelle. Die Calciumfällung wird ebenfalls, ob indirekt über die Grundsubstanzbildung oder direkt, von den Zellen maßgeblich beeinflußt. Vitamin D greift in den Knochenstoffwechsel, wahrscheinlich ebenfalls über die Beeinflussung des Zellstoffwechsels, ein.
