Abstract
The influence of added substances and homogeneous magnetic fields was examined in connection with the analysis of impurities in a TiO2 matrix. In view of the results of similar studies on graphite, only one magnetic field strength (0.01 T) was applied. Additives used were Ga2O3 and teflon (PTFE).
It was found that, in contrast to teflon, the Ga2O3-additive helps stabilizing the arc and thus favourably effects the burn-up behaviour and line intensities of impurity elements.
Application of a homogeneous magnetic field generally causes a reduction of line intensities. An interesting phenomenon, however, is the much bigger effect of attenuation of the titanium lines as compared to the lines of the analysis elements.
In examining a pure TiO2 matrix it was observed that additives like Ga2O3 and teflon exert a great influence on element distribution along the axis of the arc.
