Dislocation of an artificial knee component due to extraordinary function

Summary

A rare complication, namely dislocation of a knee component without fracture of the prosthesis and not caused by a trauma, is described in a patient who was treated for osteosarcoma of the femur. Probably the dislocation, which occurred 2 years postoperatively, was caused by an extraordinary function of this prosthesis. A partial revision of the prosthesis was performed. The newly designed knee component, which prevents dislocation, is described.

Zusammenfassung

Es wird die seltene Komplikation der Dislokation einer Knieprothese beschrieben, die ohne Fraktur einhergeht and nicht durch ein Trauma verursacht ist. Es handelt sich um einen Patienten mit einem Osteosarkom des Femur, das Veranlassung für den künstlichen Gelenkersatz war. Die 2 Jahre nach der Operation eingetretene Luxation wird in diesem Falle als Folge einer überdurch-schnittlichen Beweglichkeit der Prothese angesehen. Die Analyse des Einzelfalles führte zu einer Veränderung der Prothese, die eine Luxation vermeiden soll.
