Summary
Former experiments with the Warburg-technique revealed an acetylcholine-splitting activity in cultivated epithelial cells of the rabbit cornea.
With the Koelle histochemical method it has been demonstrated that this activity is due to the presence of acetyl-cholinesterase. This finding gives a clue to the ability of isolated corneal cells, which have not been in contact with nerves, to produce acetylcholinesterase.
