Lithium effects on citrate metabolism in humans and rats

Abstract

Lithium treatment of manic-depressive patients was accompanied by decreased blood citrate, whereas lithium to rats led to increased blood citrate levels. The implications of these findings for urinary calcium excretion in lithium-treated humans and animals are discussed.
