Differentiation between Gallionella and Metallogenium

Summary

The DNA base composition and the sensitivity to iron of an ironoxidizing Metallogenium was determined. A comparison of the organism with Gallionella ferruginea suggests that the iron-oxidizing Metallogenium may be a common contaminant of G. ferruginea cultures.
