Summary
In the present study the lactic acid content of the vitreous humour of rabbit's eyes was estimated after 1 h of pressure ischaemia. During pressure ischaemia the lactic acid content increased, mostly during the first 30 minutes. The excretion rate of lactic acid was determined after 1 and 2 h of pressure ischaemia and after intravitreal injection of 1000 γ lactic acid. The various courses of excretion led to the conclusion that the vitreous barrier had been damaged by the pressure.
