Abstract

The hydromagnetic capillary instability of a jet of inviscid, impressible fluid of infinite electrical conductivity and subjected to a uniform axial magnetic field is studied, taking into account an axial flow in the jet. The results show that while the axial flow promotes instability due to capillary effects and the axial-flow effects can be completely suppressed by a magnetic field of sufficient strength.
