Capillar- und Mikroaneurysmenverfettung bei diabolischer Retinopathie

Fatty degeneration of capillaries and microaneurysms in diabetic retinopathy

Summary

The fatty degeneration in 1 000 microaneurysms isolated by the trypsin digestion technique was histologically determined in 40 diabetic retinae.

The quantity of lipid was compared with the size of the microaneurysms, and the local distribution of the fatty aneurysms compared with the presence of fatty capillaries.

The results do not support the hypothesis that a lipid deposition and degeneration of capillaries causes microaneurysms. The pathogenesis of this fatty change is discussed.
