Summary
The fungicide DCMO is degraded rapidly by the microflora of a soil suspension. From a number of soil microorganisms the phycomycete Rhizopus japonicus was chosen for further studies.
The fungus degrades DCMO in concentrations less than 50 ppm within 3 weeks up to 90%. In culture solutions of Rhizopus japonicus a metabolite of DCMO was concentrating which could be identified as butyranilide by its UV- and IR-spectrum, its melting point and by C−H analysis.
A pathway of metabolism is proposed and discussed for the degradation of DCMO by Rhizopus japonicus.
