Summary
A review is presented about possibilities of enzymatic lesions of the articular cartilage. The cartilaginous surface of short time immobiliced knee joints which showed continious or relapsing overflows were studied by scanning electron microscope. The morphology of the observed arrosions led to the conclusion that they were caused by leukocytic enzymes. Therapeutic consequences are pointed out.
