The effect of suxamethonium on intraocular pressure, the isometric contraction of an extraocular muscle and its fibrillations was investigated in cats.

In consequence of a contraction of fibres of the “Felderstruktur” type in the extraocular muscles a rise of intraocular muscle was observed. Neither hemodynamic nor hydrodynamic changes seemed to contribute to the rise in intraocular pressure.

Fibrillations, caused by the contraction of fibres of the “Fibrillenstruktur” type which underly tachyphylaxis after frequent injections of suxamethonium do obviously not contribute to the rise of intraocular pressure.

An narkotisierten Katzen wurde die Wirkung von Suxamethonium auf den intraoculären Druck, die isometrische Kontraktion des M. rectus inf. und dessen Fibrillationen untersucht.

Als Folge einer Kontraktion der Fasern mit Felderstruktur in den äußeren Augenmuskeln kommt es zu einer Steigerung des intraoculären Drucks. Hämound hydrodynamische Ursachen für den intraoculären Druckanstieg lassen sich ausschließen.

Fibrillationen, die durch die Kontraktionen von Muskelfasern mit Fibrillenstruktur auftraten und nach mehrfacher Suxamethonium-Injektion nachließen, sind an der Steigerung des intraoculären Drucks nicht wesentlich beteiligt.
