An experimental investigation of heat transfer to laminar Newtonian flows in uniformly heated, vertical flat rectangular ducts

Abstract

Local Nusselt numbers for varying uniform heat fluxes are determined in the entrance region of flat rectangular ducts of three different aspect ratios. The flow (Re≤100) enters the ducts dynamically established. For very large Graetz numbers the Lévèque solution is confirmed. The theoretically predicted limiting Nusselt numbers are always smaller than the measured value due to the influence of the temperature dependence of the viscosity and the density. The present investigation deals quantitatively with these influences.
