Summary
1. In rabbits with constant inulin level in the plasma arterio-venous in situ perfusion with ringer's solution of the left kidney is being performed. Red cell volume and Inulin space are calculated from the amount of hemoglobin and Inulin released; the data permits the determination of the volume of interstitial fluid in kidneys.
2. In intact kidney Inulin space amounts to 29.8±3.8%, red cell volume to 6.2±0.76% and the volume of the interstitial fluid to 17.5% of the intravital kidney weight.
3. In intact kidney these volumes are independent of arterial blood pressure in the range of 60 to 180 mm Hg.
4. In oligemic kidney the above volumes decrease and will not expand with increasing arterial pressure.
5. Inulin space, red cell volume and the volume of interstitial fluid in the kidney depends on renal blood flow.
Zusammenfassung
