Summary
Pretreatment with ergotamine prior to LSD-experiments inhibited central sympathetic activity. The psychic symptoms of LSD on the other hand were prolonged or intensified. We feel that the psychic LSD symptoms were not due to activation of the central sympathetic nervous system. The prolongation of the psychic LSD-symptoms after pretreatment with ergotamine were explained on the basis of competitive inhibition of LSD-degradation.
