Summary

In order to evaluate the validity of an urine spot test for the early diagnosis of retinoblastoma, the urine of 10 patients with this disease was examined. The test is based on the increased excretion of vanilmandelic acid and homovanillic acid in cases of retinoblastoma and neuroblastoma and proved to be usefull in the diagnosis of neuroblastoma. No positive results were obtained in our series of retinoblastoma. Therefore, this method cannot be recommended for the diagnosis of retinoblastoma.
