Intra-cytoplasmic membranous inclusions in the blue-green alga, Anacystis nidulans

Archiv für Mikrobiologie Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

A description is given of a membranous inclusion found within the cells of the blue-green alga, Anacystis nidulans. The inclusions or “lamellasomes” are approximately 200 mμ in diameter and associated with, and may be derived from, the membranous structures normally found at the periphery of a cyanophycean cell. The morphological relationship of the lamellasomes to other organelles within the cell are discussed and tentative conclusions are made concerning their role in the economy of the cell.
