Summary
The cell walls of Anacystis nidulans contain 23.8% sugar, 8.9% total-N, 0.1% total-P, 27.6% protein, and 36% lipids. The polysaccharide fraction was isolated by phenol-water-fractionation. Aminosugars and acid sugars are not detectable. After hydrolysis four substances were isolated by paper chromatography. The main component is mannose, the second is glucose. The third and fourth substance have the same Rf-value as galactose and fucose, but do not agree with these standards in the sulfuric acid cysteine reaction from Dische.
