Archiv für Mikrobiologie Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

  1. 1.

A comparative morphological, histological, and cytological study of the tumors caused by Bacterium tumefaciens, spontaneous tumors on hydrid plants and of the tumors produced by various chemicals is presented.

  2. 2.

Some physiological moments have been also considered.

  3. 3.

The tumors produced by Bacterium tumefaciens are similar in structure to the spontaneous tumors on hybrid plants and to those produced by various chemicals.

  4. 4.

Bacterium tumefaciens causes polyploidy, therefore it is considered as an important agent participating in the process of the origin of species.

  5. 5.

An attempt is made to interprete the etiology of tumors in connection with the studies presented here and in consideration of some previous investigations.
